Beginner Individual Skipping Skills

Here, you will find fun and relatively easy skipping skills for beginners.

We believe that everyone should learn the following skipping skills before they attempt any of the more challenging skips.

Skill #1
Side Straddle (Jumping Jax)

One turn of the rope with the feet together, the next with the feet apart, and so on.

Skill #2
Front Straddle (Scissors)

One turn of the rope with the feet together, the next with one foot in front and the other behind, like a pair of scissors. Go back to feet together and then switch.

Skill #3
Combined Straddle

Feet together, straddle, feet together, scissors, feet together, straddle, feet together, scissors.

Skill #4
Ex

Jump the skipping rope with feet together, then with feet crossed and then repeat but with feet crossed the other way.

Skill #5
Slalom

Jump the skipping rope (both feet at the same time) from one side to the other like a slalom skier.

skip-hop tip: Having a line on the ground to jump over can help enormously with this skipping skill.

Skill #6
Bell

Jump the skipping rope feet together in a forwards direction by 18 inches or so and then back to the same spot, like a rocking bell.

skip-hop tip: As with the Slalom skipping skill, having a line on the ground to jump over can be helpful.
